2009 RID NATIONAL CONFERENCE

IEIS MS Conference Forum Minutes

Philadelphia, PA – August 3, from 4:00 – 5:30 PM

Since neither Chair Tracey Frederick nor Vice-Chair Kathy Randolph was able to attend this year’s conference, Secretary/Treasurer Bev Stokem welcomed members to the forum and shared officer reports. Several members of the RID BOD, committee members and national office staff members attended, arriving and leaving as their schedules dictated. These included RID Region II Representative Lisa Schaefermeyer, RID Immediate Past President and current liaison to the Educational Interpreter Committee (EIC) Angela Jones, EIC members Susan Brown and Donna Snyder, and award-winning RID Director of Publications, Tina Schultz. Around fifty IEIS members and interested individuals attended, some leaving early or arriving late because of scheduling overlaps.

Region III Delegate Linda Bozeman oversaw the election process, since she was rotating off the council, to allow the secretary to take minutes for the remainder of the meeting. Four positions were open; Kathy Randolph, Bev Stokem and Linda Bozeman had each served their maximum of two terms, and the Region V Delegate position was vacant.

The new IEIS Council Officers and Region Delegates elected for 2009-2011 are:
Chair - Tracey Frederick, Ed K-12, NAD 3, CI & CT – Maine
Vice-Chair - Dwight Godwin, NIC – Connecticut
Secretary/Treasurer - Jeannette Ocampo Welch, CI/CT NIC-A, Ed:K12 –Mass.
Region Delegates:
Region I - Elizabeth LaFlamme, Pre-certified - Connecticut
Region II - Pat Smartt, CI/CT, NIC-A, NAD IV, Ed:K12 – Alabama
Region III - Dave Calvert, CI - Indiana
Region IV - Erma Webb, NIC, BEI 3 – Texas
Region V Co-Delegates – Joelynne Warr, MS Deaf Ed, CI/CT - Idaho
Sammy Milburn, NAD V, CI/CT – Nevada

EIC Chair Susan Brown, Donna Snyder, and Angela Jones each presented a portion of the work the EIC has accomplished during the past two years and encouraged members to visit the toolbox for educational interpreters which will be on the RID website.

JO Welch encouraged folks to RSVP for the IEIS Social Event happening on Wednesday afternoon from 4:00 – 6:30 PM, all attendees were given an insulated lunch bag, and all were encouraged to purchase more for their friends back home for $5.00 each.

Repectfully Submitted,
Bev Stokem
Outgoing Secretary/Treasurer
